the Canadian Red Cross Society has been engaged in preventing and alleviating human suffering across Canada and around the world and has helped to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate; and
WHEREAS:
the Red Cross provides humanitarian aid where it is needed through emergency disaster relief, homeless outreach services, and has helped thousands of Canadians including residents in our own community; and
WHEREAS:
dedicated staff and volunteers at the Red Cross reflect the tremendous Canadian spirit of generosity, caring and selflessness and provide help wherever there are people in need.
NOW,
THEREFORE:
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim March 2003 as "Red Cross Month" in the City of Toronto and encourage all residents to volunteer their time to support Red Cross Society initiatives and activities in their own community or around the world.
