"Retinoblastoma Awareness Day"
November 30, 2003
| WHEREAS: |
retinoblastoma, although rare, is one of the most common eye cancers in children and, if diagnosed early, can be very successfully treated; and |
| WHEREAS: |
retinoblastoma patients and their families come to Toronto from across Canada and around the world to benefit from the dedicated health care professionals at The Hospital for Sick Children's world-renowned Retinoblastoma Program, headed by Dr. Brenda Gallie; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the Canadian Retinoblastoma Society is a not-for-profit organization that provides education and support, and is the only such charity devoted to the needs and interests of Canadian retinoblastoma families; and |
| WHEREAS: |
we are pleased the Canadian Retinoblastoma Society is holding its Educational Symposium and Annual General Meeting in Toronto on November 30, 2003, and welcome all delegates to our City. |

| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim November 30, 2003 as "Retinoblastoma Awareness Day" to increase awareness of this disease, and to acknowledge the good works of the Canadian Retinoblastoma Society and the Retinoblastoma Program at The Hospital for Sick Children. You are the light that guides the way in retinoblastoma care, research and support! |
