"Royal Week"

May 12 - 19, 2003

WHEREAS: the Monarchy is an integral and important part of our nation's heritage; and
WHEREAS: not only does Royal Week commemorate the anniversary of the birth of Queen Victoria, but this year it celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II; and
WHEREAS: during the week, The Monarchist League of Canada, together with other organizations, offers a variety of activities and events to heighten awareness of Canada's Royal Heritage among people of all ages in our large and culturally diverse City.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim May 12-19, 2003 as "Royal Week" in the City of Toronto, and encourage everyone to participate in the events and activities that are planned to celebrate the week, and learn more about this unique and valuable part of our heritage.
