May 8, 2003

WHEREAS: School Crossing Guards must possess a deep sense of responsibility, a lot of common sense, good rapport with children and the fortitude that is necessary to brave the elements; and
WHEREAS: we are extremely proud of our School Crossing Guards and highly commend them for their continued dedication and commitment to the safety and well-being of our school children; and
WHEREAS: we congratulate this year's Long Service Awards recipients, and owe our gratitude and a great debt of appreciation to all School Crossing Guards for their valuable service to the community.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim May 8, 2003 as "School Crossing Guard Appreciation Day" to recognize their significant contribution to the safety and well-being of our school children.
