"Toonie For Autism Day"

April 25, 2003

WHEREAS: autism is a complex developmental disability that appears during the first three years of life and is the result of a neurological disorder that affects the brain; and
WHEREAS: thousands of students struggle with learning challenges associated with autism or Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in schools across Ontario; and
WHEREAS: with increased public awareness, education and support programs, together with community involvement, we can help to improve the quality of life for children, adults and their families affected by this devastating disorder; and
WHEREAS: we encourage everyone to participate in the Toonie For Autism Day campaign that will help raise much-needed funds for research.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim April 25, 2003 as "Toonie for Autism Day" in the City of Toronto.
