"Toronto Trails Festival Day"
September 21, 2003
| WHEREAS: |
Toronto enjoys an extensive network of paths and trails with environmental, historical and cultural significance and remains committed to a healthy, environmentally-aware and friendly place for residents and visitors; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the City of Toronto promotes many different programs that focus on health, wellness and environmental issues, and it has been proven that recreational hiking and walking generates tremendous cardiovascular and other health benefits and has a positive effect on physical and emotional wellness; and |
| WHEREAS: |
hiking and walking trails provide great insight into the events, ideas and people that shape our City, and hikers and walkers have an opportunity to get closer to their natural heritage and better understand and appreciate the wide variety of environmental treasures in their communities; and |
| WHEREAS: |
hikers and walkers are often tourists who are visiting new areas and neighbourhoods in our large and diverse City while contributing to local economies and adding to the social development of our communities. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim September 21, 2003 as "Toronto Trails Festival Day" and encourage everyone to join with family and friends and participate in one of the hikes taking place in different areas of our City. |
