"Tourism Industry Day"

| WHEREAS: |
this day marks the second anniversary of Tourism Industry Day, organized by Tourism Toronto in partnership with all related associations and organizations to promote and increase visitation to Toronto, and |
| WHEREAS: |
Toronto is Canada's number one tourism destination both for business and leisure travellers and attracts millions of visitors annually; and |
| WHEREAS: |
visitors from around the globe come to Toronto for trade shows and conferences, world-class theatre and entertainment, international film and music festivals, parades, sporting events, arts and cultural festivals, exhibitions, and other exciting tourist attractions in our unique and culturally diverse City; and |
| WHEREAS: |
tourism is a key economic factor that employs over 190,000 people, generates an economic impact of $8.6 billion, contributes to the growth of prosperity of Toronto and adds to an improved quality of life for all our residents. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim April 24, 2003 as "Tourism Industry Day". |
