"Tourism Industry Day"

April 24, 2003

WHEREAS: this day marks the second anniversary of Tourism Industry Day, organized by Tourism Toronto in partnership with all related associations and organizations to promote and increase visitation to Toronto, and
WHEREAS: Toronto is Canada's number one tourism destination both for business and leisure travellers and attracts millions of visitors annually; and
WHEREAS: visitors from around the globe come to Toronto for trade shows and conferences, world-class theatre and entertainment, international film and music festivals, parades, sporting events, arts and cultural festivals, exhibitions, and other exciting tourist attractions in our unique and culturally diverse City; and
WHEREAS: tourism is a key economic factor that employs over 190,000 people, generates an economic impact of $8.6 billion, contributes to the growth of prosperity of Toronto and adds to an improved quality of life for all our residents.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim April 24, 2003 as "Tourism Industry Day".
