"Variety Village Sunshine Month"

| WHEREAS: |
Variety Village is a world-class provider of facilities and programs to special needs children and youth in Toronto and the surrounding areas; and |
| WHEREAS: |
Variety Village is a world leader in adaptive physical activity, recreation and sport and is able to provide these critical services and programs through the support of many volunteers, corporations and community groups; and |
| WHEREAS: |
this year, Variety Village is celebrating the 12th anniversary of the Sunshine Games, its most important and unique annual fundraising event that provides an opportunity for children, their families and people in our community to experience and participate in an exciting and fun-filled day; and |
| WHEREAS: |
Variety Village, in partnership with its community sponsor the Royal Bank, has undertaken to raise $750,000 through raffle ticket sales and corporate participation as part of the Sunshine Games to be held on May 4, 2003. |

| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim April 2003 as "Variety Village Sunshine Month" to recognize the outstanding staff and volunteers at Variety Village who assist and encourage special needs children and youth every day. I encourage everyone in the community to support this important fund-raising effort and help make a real difference in many lives. |
