"Waste Reduction Week"
October 20 - 26, 2003
| WHEREAS: |
the City of Toronto is meeting the challenge of solid waste management through its commitment to the 3Rs - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle and rolling out the Green Bin organics diversion program City-wide; and |
| WHEREAS: |
through curbside and multi-resident recycling and the City's yard waste program, as well as the new Green Bin organics program, currently implemented in the Etobicoke and Scarborough communities, the amount of waste being diverted from landfill is at 28% and increasing; and |
| WHEREAS: |
all residents have an ongoing responsibility to decrease the amount of garbage that is produced in our homes, schools, the community and workplace, by making the 3Rs a habit; and |
| WHEREAS: |
each year, schools, businesses, community groups and countless individuals join the Recycling Council in their ongoing commitment by organizing and implementing events and activities to celebrate Waste Reduction Week. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim October 20 - 26, 2003 as "Waste Reduction Week" in the City of Toronto, and encourage everyone to take responsibility for the environment by reducing, reusing and recycling. |
