 "Walk to D'Feet ALS Day"

| WHEREAS: |
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a rapidly progressive fatal motor neuron disease for which there is no cure, and from which three or four Canadians die each day; and |
| WHEREAS: |
ALS is commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease although it can strike anyone, regardless of age, gender or circumstances, requiring families to spend thousands of dollars for specialized equipment and nursing care; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the fourth annual Toronto Walk to D'Feet ALS is a campaign across Canada to raise funds for research and local area patient care; and |
| WHEREAS: |
volunteer families working for the ALS Society have been touched by this disease and are now giving their time to honour people in Toronto living with ALS and to remember loved ones. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim June 2004 as "ALS Awareness Month" to raise awareness about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Sunday, June 6, 2004 as "Toronto's Walk to D'Feet ALS" to honour and recognize those walking together to raise funds for research and patient care for people living with this disease in the City of Toronto. |
