Proclamation
"ArtsWeek"
September 23 - October 3, 2004

WHEREAS:

the arts are a unifying force that not only enrich our quality of life but contribute to Toronto's social and cultural development.

Toronto Arts Council Foundation will present this year's festivities, including the Mayor's Giant ArtsWeek 2004 Kick-off on September 23 at Nathan Phillips Square.

Now in its 18th year, ArtsWeek is the largest multidisciplinary, neighbourhood-based festival of its kind in Canada. This eleven-day city-wide celebration will feature over 1,000 artists and performers and highlight Toronto's multicultural diversity and its many arts communities.

Residents and visitors to Toronto are provided with an exciting and unique opportunity to participate in our city's artistic life by attending some of the many events that are taking place in galleries, concert halls, theatres, schools, shops and other locations throughout the city.

NOW,
THEREFORE:

I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaimSeptember 23 - October 3, 2004 as "ArtsWeek" to recognize and celebrate the excellence and talent of artists and performers who keep Toronto fresh and vibrant.

[Signed Mayor David Miller]
