 "Asian Heritage Month"

| WHEREAS: |
Asian Heritage Month was adopted by the Canadian Senate and Toronto City Council affirms its belief that the racial and ethno-cultural diversity of its communities is the utmost source of strength; and
|
| WHEREAS: |
Asia is the number one source of immigrants to Canada, and Asian Heritage Month provides an opportunity to pay tribute to the accomplishments of people of Asian decent who contribute to the social, cultural, economic and political life of our city; and
|
| WHEREAS: |
the City of Toronto continues to take a leadership role in the fight for the elimination of all forms of discrimination and is committed to equal treatment of all people regardless of race, colour, ethnic origin, gender, age, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, disability or level of literacy; and
|
| WHEREAS: |
Asian Heritage Month is a time to showcase, share and celebrate the significant role our Asian community play in Toronto's growth and prosperity.

| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim May 2004 as "Asian Heritage Month" in the City of Toronto, and encourage everyone to participate in the many activities and events that are planned to celebrate the month.
