Proclamation
"Becel Ride for Heart Day"

June 6, 2004

WHEREAS: heart disease and stroke remain the #1 killer in Canada, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation plays a leadership role by funding research and the study and prevention of this disease; and
WHEREAS: cardiovascular disease and stroke are serious health concerns that cost billions of dollars in treatment expenses and lost productivity each year, but the promotion and support of physical fitness, proper nutrition and exercise will help ensure that everyone in our community is heart healthy; and
WHEREAS: last year the Becel Ride for Heart attracted 13,000 participants from across Ontario, other provinces and countries, and with the support of thousands of community-minded individuals, corporate teams and dedicated volunteers raised an astounding $1.4 million.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim June 6, 2004 as "Becel Ride for Heart Day" in the City of Toronto, and encourage everyone to take out your two-wheeler and pump up your heart by participating in the largest one day charity bike ride to support the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

[Signed Mayor David Miller]
