 "Bike Week"
May 24 - June 6, 2004
| WHEREAS: |
Toronto is committed to a bicycle-friendly future for the City's 939,000 cyclists. To that end, Toronto has installed over 12,000 post and ring bicycle racks with plans for the installation of an additional 2,000 racks during each year of the Bike Plan's implementation; and

| WHEREAS: |
while cycling is a fun and healthy pastime, it is also an efficient and environmentally friendly means of transportation, and Toronto offers its cyclists over 154 kilometres of beautiful bike paths and more than 90 kilometres of street bike lanes and routes; and
|
| WHEREAS: |
since 1989, Bike Week has been celebrated by the many people in our City who cycle to work or school, or just for pleasure; and
|
| WHEREAS: |
Toronto has a thriving bicycle culture with more than 50 community partners who have "pedaled their influence" during Bike Week 2004 to present nearly 100 cycling-related events to help make Toronto a livable, bicycle friendly city; and
|
| WHEREAS: |
the City of Toronto recognizes the need for clean, cost-effective transportation and supports the Toronto Cycling Committee in its endeavours.

| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim May 24 - June 6, 2004 as "Bike Week" and encourage everyone to get outside and ride!
