Proclamation
"BREAKFAST FOR LEARNING Month"
September 2004

WHEREAS: the aim of this event is to promote awareness of the important link between nutrition and learning and to increase support for child nutrition programs in our communities and neighbourhoods across Canada.
Founded in 1992, BREAKFAST FOR LEARNING, Canadian Living Foundation addresses the needs of hungry children and is the only national, non-profit organization solely dedicated to supporting child nutrition programs.
BREAKFAST FOR LEARNING programs are accessible to every child and studies have shown that students who are well nourished perform better in school, and their ability to concentrate improves as so does their aptitude to learn.
These programs are not owned or operated by BREAKFAST FOR LEARNING, but created and sustained by a network of dedicated and resourceful volunteers who spend hours shopping, cooking and serving meals to children every school day.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor David Miller on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim September 2004 as "BREAKFAST FOR LEARNING Month" in the City of Toronto. I congratulate and thank the outstanding volunteers, and encourage everyone to support this very important cause and recognize the impact of good nutrition on a child's ability to learn.

[Signed Mayor David Miller]
