Proclamation
"Caribana Festival Weeks"

July 16 - August 2, 2004

WHEREAS: Caribana means it's festival time in Toronto. This extravagant and popular event is a highlight of the summer season and a vibrant and joyful celebration that attracts hundreds of thousands visitors to our city.
As the largest event of its kind in North America, this extraordinary cultural celebration recreates the lively and captivating spirit of the culture and traditions that play such an important part in our Caribbean community.
The festival highlight is the spectacular Parade when the streets come alive with dazzling costumed bands and live Calypso, Steelpan, Soca, Raggae and Samba music, as well as arts, crafts, fashion and food.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim July 16 - August 2, 2004 as "Caribana Festival Weeks" and encourage residents and visitors to participate in this exciting celebration. I congratulate the Caribbean Cultural Committee and everyone involved for your hard work and commitment in making this special event such a success.

[Signed Mayor David Miller]
