City of Toronto Proclamation |
 |
| |
|
 "Diversity Day"
July 10, 2004
| WHEREAS: |
Toronto is one of the most diverse cities in the world where nearly half of its residents come from 230 different countries and speak more than 100 languages and dialects. |
|
Our aboriginal community is one of the largest in Canada and the lesbian, bisexual, transgender, transsexual and two spirited population is estimated to be the third largest in North America. |
|
Diversity strengthens Toronto. It is celebrated, respected and valued by our residents and is evident in the thriving and colourful ethnic and cultural neighbourhoods throughout the City. |
|
Appreciation for diversity among Toronto residents creates a climate of understanding, which places the people of our City in the forefront of efforts to ensure that everyone has the right to live in conditions of peace, dignity and harmony. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim July 10, 2004 as "Diversity Day". |
[Signed Mayor David Miller]
