WHEREAS: the city of Toronto's lands, waters, air and other natural resources should be protected and preserved at all costs. This goal of environmental sustainability is the legacy we wish to leave for those who follow us; and
WHEREAS: the City of Toronto supports and strengthens its commitment to the environment by continuing to accomplish the goals outlined in its first Environmental Plan - Clean, Green and Healthy: A Plan for an Environmentally Sustainable Toronto; and
WHEREAS: Earth Day is a global event that celebrates environmental achievements and raises awareness for environmental issues. The City of Toronto celebrates the spirit of Earth Day by inviting all Toronto residents to attend Earth Week activities and displays and participate in the 20-Minute Toronto Makeover, Mayor Miller's Community Clean-up Day and the Earth Day Downsview Park Tree Planting Festival.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim April 19 - 23, 2004 as "Earth Week" and April 22, 2004 as "Earth Day" and welcome the support of all residents in our quest to create a clean, green and healthy Toronto.
