 "Emergency Medical Services Week"
May 16 - 22, 2004
| WHEREAS: |
emergency medical services is a vital public service with teams of emergency medical personnel ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and
|
| WHEREAS: |
access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and
|
| WHEREAS: |
emergency medical services teams consist of paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, emergency physicians and nurses, base hospital physicians, educators, administrators and others, and these professionals have traditionally served as the safety net of Canada's health care system; and
|
| WHEREAS: |
members of emergency medical services teams engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education, to enhance their lifesaving skills so that Canadians can benefit daily from the knowledge of these highly trained and skilled individuals.

| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim May 16 - 22, 2004 as "Emergency Medical Services Week" in recognition of our valued emergency medical services professionals. I encourage our community to participate in the activities and celebrate the accomplishments of Toronto's Emergency Medical Services staff.
