"Graffiti Eradication Month"

| WHEREAS: |
the Toronto Police Service has designed and developed a nationally recognized Graffiti Eradication Program that focuses on the reduction of crime, fear and disorder as it relates to graffiti vandalism; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the Toronto Police Service, working in partnership with all Toronto communities, engages in a program of eradication, education, empowerment, enforcement and economic development in keeping our city the best and safest place to be; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the Toronto Police Service celebrates the value of its partnerships with all Community groups, Faith groups, Toronto Crime Stoppers, City Agencies, City Councillors and the media, in order to achieve program goals for crime reduction, increased citizen safety, urban beautification and revitalization; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the Toronto Police Service has recognized the Toronto urban landscape as uniquely containing seven distinct styles of graffiti, Hate and bias crime, Gang graffiti, Hip Hop graffiti, Latrinalia, Folk Epigraphy, Political activism and cult graffiti, and that each is earmarked for removal, and its perpetrators prosecuted. |

| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council, hereby proclaim May 2004 as "Graffiti Eradication Month" and encourage everyone to support the Toronto Police Service in this very worthwhile program in an effort to provide Toronto residents with a city that is recognized as the best and safest place to be. |
