Proclamation
"Hispanic Heritage Week"
October 9 - 12, 2004

WHEREAS: in Toronto, we encourage and welcome arts and cultural celebrations that are organized by the many ethnic and cultural groups who work hard to promote and preserve their rich history and traditions.
Hispanic Heritage Week provides our Latin American communities with the opportunity to showcase and share their lively and captivating culture and traditions with Toronto residents and visitors to our city.
In Toronto, the mosaic of many ethnic cultures provides a kaleidoscope of rich customs and traditions that truly reflect our diversity, and this community event promotes goodwill and understanding, adds to our social and cultural development and enriches our quality of life.
Hispanic Heritage Week offers a great opportunity for people of all ages, from different backgrounds and walks of life to come together with family and friends to enjoy a celebration of great performances, music, dance, food and other fun activities.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor David Miller on behalf of the residents of Toronto do hereby proclaim October 9 - 12, 2004 as "Hispanic Heritage Week" and encourage everyone to join in this exciting and colourful celebration showcasing our Latin American communities.

[Signed Mayor David Miller]
