 "Injured Workers' Day"
June 1, 2004
| WHEREAS: |
the Greater Toronto Area has a workforce of over two million people; and |
| WHEREAS: |
each year, workers in various occupations are injured or killed in their workplaces, or die as a result of occupational disease; and |
| WHEREAS: |
workplace injuries, deaths and diseases have an enormous human cost to the workers, and families of workers afflicted, as well as to all of society; and |
| WHEREAS: |
workplace injuries and deaths are unnecessary and preventable. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim June 1, 2004 as "Injured Workers' Day" in the City of Toronto, to increase public awareness of the impact of work-related injuries, deaths and disease. Employers and workers must continue to work together to make all workplaces safe and accident free. |
