Proclamation
"Irish Heritage and Cultural Appreciation Month"

March 2004

WHEREAS: during this month we recognize the significant contributions made by our Irish community to the economic growth, stability and success of our city; and
WHEREAS: the courage and determination of people of Irish descent who immigrated to Canada and other countries, is a success story worth celebrating, and nowhere is this more evident than in Toronto where over half a million residents of Irish heritage make their home; and
WHEREAS: each March, our Irish community celebrates its rich culture and traditions with a month-long calendar of events including the St. Patrick's Day Parade, which is enjoyed by thousands of people of all ages, from different backgrounds and walks of life, and the Grand Marshall's Ball.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim March 2004 as "Irish Heritage and Cultural Appreciation Month" to recognize the outstanding contribution our large and vibrant Irish community make to the social and cultural development of Toronto.
