"Khalsa Day"

April 25, 2004

WHEREAS: Khalsa Day marks the 305th anniversary of the founding of the Sikh Order of the Khalsa, and the City of Toronto is pleased to recognize this milestone occasion; and
WHEREAS: our Sikh community plays an important part in our City's success, and adds to our cultural divrsity by promoting and preserving rich traditions and heritage; and
WHEREAS: our Sikh community is celebrating this significant holiday with religious, educational and cultural activities and events that they graciously share with the people of Toronto.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council do hereby proclaim April 25, 2004 as "Khalsa Day" in the City of Toronto to recognize this auspicious 305th anniversary celebration and show our appreciation for the tremendous contribution made by our Sikh community to our city.
