 "MS Awareness Month"
May 2004
| WHEREAS: |
there is no known cause or cure for multiple sclerosis, a chronic, often disabling, neurological disease that affects more than 50,000 Canadians; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the symptoms of this disease vary widely and can lead to problems with numbness, co-ordination, vision and speech, as well as extreme fatigue and even paralysis; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada was founded in 1948 and is the only national voluntary organization that supports both research and services for people afflicted with MS and their families; and |
| WHEREAS: |
over the past 51 years, the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada has provided more than $64 million for research, and a wide range of services that are made possible because of dedicated volunteers and supporters. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim May 2004 as "MS Awareness Month" in the City of Toronto and encourage everyone to support this important annual fundraising campaign. |
