"Organ Donation Week"
April 18 - 24, 2004
| WHEREAS: |
there are many thousands of men, women and children on waiting lists for a life-saving organ/tissue donation that will provide them with a second chance; and |
| WHEREAS: |
it is unfortunate that in our society many people are unaware of the real need for organ donations, as the list of those requiring transplants grows every year; |
| WHEREAS: |
the tireless efforts of the Canadian Transplant Association members, volunteers and individual donors and their families can and do save many lives each year; and |
| WHEREAS: |
only through education and increased public awareness can people make the decision to donate their organ/tissue and make the tremendous contribution of The Gift of Life. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim April 18 - 24, 2004 as "Organ Donation Week", and encourage everyone who makes the decision to donate their organ/tissue to sign their organ donor card and discuss their wishes with family and friends. |
