 "Remembrance Weeks" October 29 - November 11, 2004
| WHEREAS: |
more than one and a half million Canadians have served in our armed forces in time of war and as peacekeepers and many have made the ultimate sacrifice. |
|
Every year on November 11th, people from different backgrounds and walks of life gather at cenotaphs and memorials in our communities to honour and remember those who fought for peace and freedom on land, in the air and at sea. |
|
It is especially important that in remembering those who gave their lives we commit ourselves to lasting peace at home and around the world and resolve that the lessons of the past are never repeated. |
|
Today we are proud to wear the poppy is a symbol of the real poppies that grow on the final resting place of many soldiers who fought and died protecting our freedom. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim October 29 - November 11, 2004 as "Remembrance Weeks" to honour, thank and salute the veterans who are with us for their bravery and heroic actions in the face of danger, and pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
|
[Signed Mayor David Miller]
