 "Self-Help Awareness Week" September 27 - October 3, 2004
| WHEREAS: |
the Self-Help Resource Centre assists the community by providing information and referral services to self-help and mutual aid groups with links to centres across Toronto. |
|
Self-help/mutual aid groups are voluntary, peer-led groups of individuals who come together to share common experiences, support, knowledge or concerns and are provided with the opportunity to help themselves and each other. |
|
The Self-Help Resource Centre assists new groups with start up, supports established groups, offers workshops, outreach programs, resources and newsletters to promote the goals of the organization and the importance of self-help/mutual aid strategies. |
|
The Self-Help Resource Centre and its community partners have schedule a week of fairs and other events about self-help/mutual aid to increase awareness of the services, benefits and support that are available to people from all walks of life in our large culturally diverse city. |

| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim September 27 - October 3, 2004 as "Self-Help Awareness Week" and encourage everyone to participate in the activities and learn more about the Self-Help Resource Centre and its services. |
