"Social Work Week"

March 1 - 6, 2004

WHEREAS: professional social workers are engaged in a global service to meet human needs arising from societal and personal relationships and interactions; and
WHEREAS: society has long been dependent on the practical and compassionate work of communities and individuals facing trying and challenging times; and
WHEREAS: social workers are activists for change - advocating for those less fortunate, the oppressed and vulnerable; and
WHEREAS: for decades, social workers have championed ending discrimination and promoting equality, social justice and equal opportunities for all.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council do hereby proclaim March 1 - 6, 2004 as "Social Work Week". Let us all join in recognizing the dedicated and important services that social workers provide to enhance and improve our quality of life.

[Signed Mayor David Miller]
