 "Storytelling Week"
March 26 - April 4, 2004
| WHEREAS: |
the arts are a unifying force in our city. They enhance our quality of life and are vital to the cultural and social development of our community; and |
| WHEREAS: |
in Toronto there are many artistic and creative people who share the gifts of their stories from around the block and around the world; and |
| WHEREAS: |
storytelling is an art that connects people of all ages and cultures, and over the years the Storytellers School of Toronto has been celebrating this art with courses, gatherings, performances and festivals; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the 26th annual Toronto Festival of Storytelling will present storytellers from around the world and present programs that feature South Asian storytelling traditions, Afro-based oral literature, First Nations stories, many other themes and cultures and the first ever Remarkable Story Jam, an new initiative to make storytelling part of the classroom in our schools. |

| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim March 26 - April 4, 2004 as "Storytelling Week" and encourage everyone to attend the many entertaining events that are planned at venues across the city. |
