| WHEREAS: |
Taoist Tai Chi Society of Canada is a non-profit, volunteer based organization dedicated to promoting and raising awareness of the benefits of Taoist Tai Chi in order to encourage physical, mental and spiritual well-being in the community. |

Regular practice of Taoist Tai Chi promotes a wide range of health benefits to the muscular, skeletal and circulatory systems and is meant to be practiced in a spirit of compassion and service to others. |

The ancient Taoists were renowned for their study of the arts of health and longevity and the simple and gentle movements of Taoist Tai Chi serve as a medium of meditation that reduces stress and provides a way to promote a healthy body and mind. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, David Mayor Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim September 4, 2004 as "Taoist Tai Chi Awareness Day". |
