"Taxi Driver Appreciation Day" August 11, 2004
| WHEREAS: |
our city's taxi drivers work many hours a week to provide safe and reliable transportation for our businesses, residents, tourists and employees. In the past they have not received sufficient public recognition for their added value in keeping Toronto running smoothly. |
|
The city has been supportive in recognizing the role of "cabbies" through programs such as annual awards, the Ambassador program and the uniform cab-colour program all of which improve the value and performance of our cab companies. |
|
For the last three years, Canyon Creek Chophouse has set aside a special day to serve free lunches to taxi cab drivers and the Front Street restaurant is holding the event this year to show appreciation to taxi cab drivers in downtown Toronto. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim August 11, 2004 as "Taxi Driver Appreciation Day" and encourage taxi cab drivers in the downtown core to visit Canyon Creek's Front Street restaurant and enjoy a free lunch. |
[Signed Mayor David Miller]
