"Toronto Peace Day" September 19, 2004
| WHEREAS: |
in Toronto, people of all ages, diverse backgrounds and walks of life appreciate the values that we all treasure - peace, freedom and democracy. |
|
Today, people of many faiths are gathered here to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Peace Garden. Here where the eternal flame from Hiroshima and water from a river in Nagasaki continue to inspire all who visit and keep the dream of peace alive. |
|
Today and every day we must work together to create a society that upholds humanity's belief in peace and strengthens confidence in the nobility of the human soul. |
|
Only through education, tolerance and mutual respect can we achieve peace and harmony, as the flame burns brightly and the dream lives on in the hearts of men and women in Toronto and around the world. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor David Miller on behalf of the residents of Toronto do hereby proclaim September 19, 2004 as "Toronto Peace Day" to reaffirm our commitment to peace and harmony. |
[Signed Mayor David Miller]
