"Toronto Trails Festival Month" October 2004
| WHEREAS: |
Toronto enjoys an extensive network of paths and trails with environmental, historical and cultural significance and remains committed to a healthy, environmentally aware and friendly place for residents and visitors. |
|
The City of Toronto promotes many different programs that focus on health, wellness and environmental issues, and it has been proven that recreational walking and hiking generates tremendous cardiovascular and other health benefits and has a positive effect on physical and emotional wellness. |
|
Walking and hiking trails provide great insight into the events, ideas and people that shape our City, and walkers and hikers have an opportunity to get closer to their natural heritage and better understand and appreciate the wide variety of environmental treasures in their communities. |
|
Walkers and hikers are often tourists who are visiting new areas and neighbourhoods in our large and diverse City, while contributing to local economies and adding to the social development of our communities. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim October 2004 as "Toronto Trails Festival Month" and encourage everyone to join with family and friends and participate in the many walking and hiking activities taking place in different areas of our City. |
[Signed Mayor David Miller]
