Proclamation
"UNICEF Day"
October 31, 2004

WHEREAS: UNICEF is dedicated to improving the lives of children around the world. With almost 60 years of experience, it is funded entirely by voluntary contributions from individuals, businesses, foundations and governments.
Working in 158 countries and territories UNICEF is the world’s leader for children, the largest provider of vaccines for developing nations, supports child health and nutrition, promotes quality basic education for all boys and girls and protects children from violence and exploitation.
On October 31, the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF program will raise millions of dollars that will fund the survival, growth and long-term development of the world’s children, and will instil in Canadian children the importance of giving and educate them about the lives of children in other parts of the world.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim October 31, 2004 as "UNICEF Day" and encourage everyone to support this very worthy cause that helps save and improve the lives of children in developing countries and around the world.

[Signed Mayor David Miller]
