Proclamation
"Week of the Child"
October 16 - 24, 2004

WHEREAS: children are our most precious resource and their health and well-being is our responsibility. We must never ignore, forget or overlook our obligation to provide them with the basic necessities of life.
Under the theme "Cherish the Children" and to celebrate the 25th anniversary of "Week of the Child", the Association of Early Childhood Educators-Toronto Branch is organizing a wide variety of events and activities that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.
Children are the future and we must encourage them to become strong, productive and caring people. This week will focus on the needs, rights and interests of children, as well as increase awareness of the value of quality early childhood education.
This Week is an excellent opportunity to renew our commitment to improving the prospects for all children and their families, and to care for and educate our future adults, parents and leaders.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor David Miller on behalf of the residents of Toronto do hereby proclaim October 16-24, 2004 as "Week of the Child" and encourage everyone to participate in the events and activities planned to celebrate the week.

[Signed Mayor David Miller]
