Check Up from the Neck Up Week
April 3 - 7, 2006 WHEREAS
one in five Canadians will personally experience a mood disorder in their lifetime, fewer than half will seek treatment.
In order to encourage Torontonians to take control of their mental health, the Mood Disorders Association of Ontario, in conjunction with various other health organizations, will be launching a major public awareness campaign on April 4th, 2006 for a period of three months. This broad-based campaign will direct Torontonians to an online depression screening tool developed by the Department of Psychiatry at Sunnybrook and Women's Health Sciences Centre. The partners in this important pilot project are expecting 300,000 people to visit the website during the months of April, May and June of 2006. NOW THEREFORE,
I, Mayor David Miller, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim April 3 - 7, 2006 as "Check Up from the Neck Up Week" and encourage everyone to practice optimal health by making mental health screening a part of their annual check up. |
