Queen's York Rangers Day

January 28, 2012

WHEREAS the Queen's Rangers helped build this city when John Graves Simcoe first established it as our provincial capital in 1793. During the War of 1812 the York Volunteers fought at Queenston Heights to defend Canada from foreign invasion. The Queen's York Rangers, 1st American Regiment (RCAC) perpetuates the Queen's Rangers and the York Volunteers.

On January 28th, the Queen's York Rangers will host the Toronto Garrison Ball. This year, the Garrison remembers the soldiers who fought in the war of 1812. It is appropriate that the Rangers be recognized because they are the Toronto Garrison regiment most closely identified with the War of 1812. The citizens of Toronto are grateful to the Rangers for their on-going service to Toronto and Canada.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Rob Ford, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim January 28, 2012 as "Queen's York Rangers Day" in the City .

Mayor Rob Ford
