Call for Submissions

The magic of Scotiabank Nuit Blanche will return to light up the city on Saturday, September 29, 2012.

If you have an idea for an art project, there are two different ways you can apply to participate: as an Open Call Project or an Independent Project. Details about both options are listed below.

Open Call Projects

Each year the City of Toronto works with a group of curators to commission a series of installations ("Exhibition Projects") in each of three Exhibition Areas. In addition to 10 commissioned projects, each Exhibition Area includes five projects selected by the curators through an open call process.

The deadline has now passed for 2012 Open Call submissions. Please check-back in October 2012 for information on 2013 applications.

Independent Projects

Toronto artists, museums, galleries, cultural and educational institutions, neighbourhoods and BIAs are invited to submit their plans to be an Independent Project. Selected projects are chosen by an autonomous advisory Committee. All projects must meet the Scotiabank Nuit Blanche criteria outlined in the Guidelines for Independent Projects.

All applications for the Independent Project Program are reviewed first for eligibility by the City of Toronto Special Events Office. Eligible applications will be forwarded to the Scotiabank Nuit Blanche Artistic Advisory Committee for assessment and recommendation.

Applicants should be aware that their participation in Scotiabank Nuit Blanche is not automatic solely on the basis of meeting the general eligibility requirements. The selection committee will assess applications against the criteria outlined in the Guidelines document.

Deadlines:

The deadline for Independent Project Applications is February 15, 2012. All Documents and Files are due by this date.

  • Emailed applications are due by midnight, Wednesday, February 15, 2012.
  • Hand delivered applications are due in our City Hall office by 4 pm on Wednesday, February 15, 2012.

Mailed applications are required to be postmarked on Friday, February 10, 2012 at the latest. Address your package to: Scotiabank Nuit Blanche Independent Project Application.
