Code of Conduct for Twitter& Facebook

The StreetARToronto(StART) Twitter & Facebook accounts are managed by the Public Realm Section in the Transportation Services Division.

The @StART_Toronto Twitter account and the StreetARToronto Facebook account will be updated and monitored during regular office hours, Monday to Friday, excluding holidays. Twitter may occasionally be unavailable and the City of Toronto accepts no responsibility for lack of service due to Twitter downtime or other disruptions.

Our followers can expect an average of 3 tweets and Facebook wall updates every day, and we will try our best to respond to questions and comments as soon as possible.

Tweets and Facebook updates may include the following content:

  • Updates about StreetARToronto(StART) program news, events and initiatives/projects
  • News and/or blog articles about graffiti and street art-related issues in Toronto and abroad
  • Photographs or videos of street art
  • Features on local street artists

Twitter.com has rules of conduct that we follow and we expect our followers will as well, including that your communications will not:

  • Falsely claim to represent a person, organization or entity;
  • Violate or infringe the rights of another person or entity;
  • Be abusive, hateful, racist, sexist, harassing, threatening, inflammatory, defamatory, slanderous, knowingly false, obscene, sexually explicit, profane or otherwise objectionable or otherwise in violation of any law, rule or regulation; or
  • Contain personal information about yourself or a third party

If you follow @StART_Toronto, we will not automatically follow you back. This helps us reduce resource wastage due to handling spam. It also discourages the use of Direct Messaging and allows you to easily identify key Twitter accounts that are relevant to the City of Toronto. Being followed by @StART_Toronto does not imply an endorsement of any kind.

Twitter or Facebook accounts that engage in inflammatory behaviour (e.g. personal attacks on other users, derogatory remarks, foul language), and those identified as spam accounts will be un-followed or blocked by @StART_Toronto.

Our Twitter and Facebook accounts might contain links to other websites or accounts. We are not responsible for the content and the privacy policies of sites other than our own. We encourage that you carefully examine each site’s privacy policy and disclaimers and make your own informed decisions regarding the accuracy, reliability and correctness of material and information found there.

The linking to any website and/or Twitter/Facebook account or the mention of any product, company or individual is not an endorsement by the City of Toronto of the referenced product(s), view(s) expressed, company, individual, or any service advertised as in such referenced material.

Privacy and personal information

All posts by the public on a City of Toronto social media site and any information attached or included is considered to be part of a public record as defined by section 27 of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Please be advised that the privacy provisions of Part 2 of that Act would not apply to any information you post.

It is the responsibility of every individual following our Twitter and Facebook accounts to protect their own personal information and privacy. Please do not send us personal information through Twitter or Facebook. Any personal information received through the @StART_Toronto Twitter account and the StreetARToronto Facebook account will be treated as a communication by you through the City of Toronto’s website and will be handled by us in accordance with the City of Toronto's Privacy & Security Statement.

Other Terms

The views expressed in Re-Tweets or Re-posts made by the @StART_Toronto Twitter account and the StreetARToronto Facebook account do not necessarily represent the views of the City of Toronto, and we do not accept any liability in relation to such views.

The StreetARToronto(StART) Program welcomes comments, feedback and ideas from all its followers. However, by providing feedback and ideas to us, you are granting the City of Toronto, your permission to use, copy, modify, publish and transmit your feedback and permit others (whether within or outside the City of Toronto) to do so, without the need to seek further permission from you and without any compensation to you. You also agree to waive any moral rights for the benefit of the City of Toronto in any copyright you hold in and to the feedback and ideas.

The StreetARToronto(StART) Program plans to join the conversation where possible. However, we are not able to reply individually to all messages received via Twitter and Facebook. The StreetARToronto(StART) staff will read all messages sent to us and, when possible, will respond to them and will pass on communications as appropriate.

While we attempt to ensure that all information we post on our Twitter and Facebook accounts are accurate and complete, we do not represent that it is so, or guarantee it, and accept no liability or obligation for accuracy or completeness.
