To finalize and request changes to your property tax and/or utility account if you are buying, selling or moving residences:
Remember to update your electronic banking information to your new utility account number for your new location.
If you do not update your banking details:
The Final Utility Bill will include a Special/Final Read Fee . This is an administrative fee that is applied to all utility accounts that are finalized in the City of Toronto.
Finalizing your utility account will automatically cancel your enrolment in the PUP Program. The Final Utility Bill must be paid through any of the other accepted payment methods .
If you have a tenant/agent assigned as a designate to receive the utility bill, finalizing the utility account will automatically remove the designate on file.
Note: If the tenant/agent wishes to continue being a designate for the utility bill, a new Designate Mailing Request form will need to be completed, signed and returned.
A Final Utility Bill cannot be issued for accounts that are billed on a flat rate system. If there is a change in ownership, the flat rate utility bill is negotiated by the lawyers and details of the vendor's and purchaser's portions of the bill will be stated in the Statement of Adjustments.
When a property changes ownership, keeping your flat rate utility bill payments up-to-date will help to avoid overdue balances or fees from being applied due to Transfer-to-Tax action.
If you have purchased a property, ensure that your lawyer has contacted the City by written request to update ownership information for your property (property tax and utility account).
If you are a new utility bill customer, your first utility bill will include an Ownership Change Fee .
