Gulliver Park Playground Improvements

From August 26 to November 30, the playground will be closed for construction.

The City is improving the playground in Gulliver Park as part of an ongoing program to enhance playgrounds and play spaces across the city so that everyone can experience the joys and benefits of play for years to come.

Level of Engagement

This project has been classified as a Consult project based on the International Association for Public Participation Spectrum. This means we obtain public feedback on design options for the playground improvements.

October 2026

Construction Update

Construction for the new playground continues. The old playground equipment has been removed and levelling work is in progress.

Construction Update

Construction for the new playground starts and is anticipated to continue until the end of November.

Final Playground Design

The final design for the new Gulliver Park playground, which has been refined based on community feedback. It will be bright colours, like yellow, orange and purple, and earthy colours like brown, green and blue, and will include the play features listed below.

The final playground design and layout was determined using feedback from the community. The new playground will be AODA compliant and will include the following play features:

  • two swing sets with:
    • one toddler swing
    • one accessible swing
    • one saucer/disc swing
    • two belt swings
  • one junior play structure for ages 18 months to five years with:
    • one curved slide
    • one double slide
    • one vertical rope climber
    • one labyrinth wheel panel
    • one countertop panel
    • one hammock seat
    • one accessible transfer station
  • one senior play structure for ages five to 12 years with:
    • one single monkey bar
    • three climber elements
    • four overhead ladder elements
    • one set of monkey bars
    • one curved vertical net bridge
    • one rope stepping stone crossing
    • one stump stepping stone crossing
  • one spring toy
  • one sit-down spinner
  • one communication panel
  • one activity panel

The new playground will also include new seating, engineered wood fibre surfacing and an accessible pathway and concrete ramp to the area.

April 2026

Online Survey

From March 13 to April 13 feedback on multiple playground design options was collected in an online survey. The survey was promoted through paid social media ads, the local Councillor’s office, on-site signage and on this page. The survey received a total of 331 responses.

The design team will use this feedback to refine the final playground design. The final design will be available on this page in Summer 2026.

Key Feedback Highlights
  • When asked to rank their playground design preference, respondents ranked Playground Design C highest (53 per cent) followed by Playground Design B (37 per cent) and Playground Design A (10 per cent).
  • Respondents shared that the three most important features to include in the new playground are:
    • senior play structure for ages five to 12
    • climbing structures
    • junior play structure for ages two to five
  • Respondents shared that the three least important features to include in the new playground are:
    • stand-alone toys
    • stand-up spinner toys
    • play panels
  • If budget permits, the three features respondents would like more of in the improved playground are:
    • climbing structures
    • senior play structure for ages five to 12
    • spiral slide
  • For seating around the playground:
    • 77 per cent of respondents like picnic tables
    • 75 per cent of respondents like benches
    • 22 per cent of respondents like armour stones
  • The preferred colour scheme for the new playground was bright colours, like yellow, orange and purple (62 per cent) over earthy colours like green, brown and grey (23 per cent).

All three designs are AODA compliant, have about the same amount of play features and cost the same amount.

Gulliver Park Playground is located near Keele Street and Gulliver Road.

The playground currently includes:

  • three swing sets with:
    • two swings for ages two to five
    • four swings for ages five and up
  • a senior play structure with medium-sized curved slide
  • a junior climbing structure with one small slide and one double slide
  • a set of two stand-alone climbing bars
  • sand under all play areas

The playground will be redesigned using community feedback and is proposed to include:

  • playground equipment for ages five to 12
  • new seating
  • engineered wood fibre surfacing
  • an accessible pathway/ concrete ramp to the playground area

The play equipment and pathway connecting to the playground area will comply with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). Learn more about how playgrounds are made accessible.

Improvements will only be made in the general playground area and will not include any new water or lighting features or improvements to other areas of the park.
