Beginning in November 2026, the City of Toronto and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) will begin major infrastructure improvements along King Street West. This work is necessary to replace aging watermains,  renew streetcar tracks to help maintain reliable transit service and essential municipal infrastructure.

The first phase of construction is expected to be complete in August 2027 and will take place along two sections of King Street:

  • Close Avenue to Dufferin Street
  • Portland Street to Spadina Avenue

Starting in 2027, the City and TTC will carry out watermain replacement and streetcar track renewal on two additional segments of King Street:

  • Shaw Street to Bathurst Street: Spring 2027 to Summer/Fall 2027
  • King Street West and York Street intersection: June 2027 to August 2027

Construction activities will be coordinated and phased across all project areas. Some work may occur simultaneously, where appropriate, to help minimize impacts on traffic, transit customers, residents and local businesses.
