The City of Toronto will replace the watermains and water service connections to properties on both the north side and south side of King Street West from Dufferin Street to west of Close Avenue. The City of Toronto and Toronto Transit Commission will also renew the TTC tracks along King Street between Dufferin Street and Close Avenue.
Construction is expected to begin in early November 2026 and is anticipated to be complete in August 2027.
This work is required to bring the watermain and streetcar track infrastructure to a state of good repair and is part of the Council-approved 2026 Capital Works Program.

The work area is along along King Street between Dufferin Street and Close Avenue.
Watermain work will generally take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday to Friday, with late work or weekend work as needed. Excavation and heavy breaking activities will occur at various times throughout the day.
TTC track replacement work will take place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Concrete milling and breaking activities will occur between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. Concrete breaking is the most disruptive activity and will typically last the first one to two days of each construction phase. Around-the-clock work is required during rail installation to preserve the integrity and quality of the new rail and concrete. Overnight work may include moving new rail into position, rail installation, and rail welding or grinding.

The City’s contractor must ensure safe and accessible walkways and entryways are maintained for everyone during construction.
