The City of Toronto plans to replace the watermains and service connections on both the north and south sides along King Street between Dufferin Street and Close Avenue. The City of Toronto and Toronto Transit Commission will also renew the TTC tracks along King Street between Dufferin Street and Close Avenue.
This work is required to bring the watermain and streetcar track infrastructure to a state of good repair and is part of the Council-approved 2026 Capital Works Program.
The work area is along along King Street between Dufferin Street and Close Avenue.
Watermain work will generally take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday to Friday, with late work or weekend work as needed. Excavation and heavy breaking activities will occur at various times throughout the day.
TTC track replacement work will take place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Concrete milling and breaking activities will occur between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. Concrete breaking is the most disruptive activity and will typically last the first one to two days of each construction phase. Around-the-clock work is required during rail installation to preserve the integrity and quality of the new rail and concrete. Overnight work may include moving new rail into position, rail installation, and rail welding or grinding.

The City’s contractor must ensure safe and accessible walkways and entryways are maintained for everyone during construction. Any temporary access disruptions will be communicated as soon as possible.
