Starting the week of April 14 to the end of May, at a minimum one lane in each direction on Bathurst Street and Lake Shore Boulevard will be maintained.
The City of Toronto and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) are renewing aging streetcar tracks at the intersection of Bathurst Street and Lake Shore Boulevard. The City will also replace the 105-year-old watermain at the intersection of Bathurst Street and Lake Shore Boulevard West and complete streetscape improvements on Fleet Street including sidewalk widening and addition of public seating.
This work is required to bring City infrastructure to a state of good repair and is part of the Council-approved 2024 Capital Works Program.
Work will begin in mid-February and is expected to be complete by end of May 2025.

The work area extends along Bathurst Street from south of Housey Street to just south of Lake Shore Boulevard.
Work will take place 24 hours, 7 days a week. Excavation activities and heavy breaking will be carried out at various times throughout the day. All concrete breaking activities will occur between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. Concrete breaking work is the most disruptive and will typically last the first 1-2 days for each phase of construction. Around-the-clock work during rail installation by TTC is required to preserve the integrity and quality of new rail and concrete. Overnight rail work by TTC may consist of moving new rail into position, rail installation and rail welding / grinding.
From time-to-time, the water supply to properties will be shut-off to complete construction; The City’s contractor will provide notice at least 48-hours in advance. When water is shut off, it is recommended that you temporarily disconnect any water treatment systems (i.e. softeners or filters), water-cooled air conditioners or similar plumbing fixtures. In the event you did not receive advance notice, the City may have needed to use an emergency water shut off to complete work.
The City has been working with businesses and property management representatives to accommodate delivery and loading activities during construction. If you have not yet discussed your delivery needs with the project team, please contact the staff person listed on this web page as soon as possible.
The City’s contractor must ensure safe and accessible walkways and entryways are maintained for everyone during construction. Any temporary access disruptions will be communicated as soon as possible. If you experience a disruption, have a specific access need or related accommodation request, contact the person listed on this web page.
The project is expected to begin in mid February and is expected to be complete by end of May.
To accommodate this project, the TTC must temporarily divert 509 Harbourfront and 511 Bathurst streetcars away from the active work zone at the Bathurst Street, Fleet Street and Lake Shore Boulevard East intersection.
Details about these diversions are posted at ttc.ca/BathurstLakeShore.
The project team is working to actively keep local residents and businesses informed throughout different stages of this project. Sign up to receive construction updates by email.
