Opportunity Details

Toronto Animal Services is seeking compassionate foster caregivers for cats, dogs (especially large-breed dogs), rabbits, and guinea pigs. If you have a safe and loving space to share, even for a short time, you can make a life-changing difference for an animal in need.

Why Fostering Matters

A shelter can be overwhelming for many animals, especially those recovering from medical procedures or needing emotional support. A foster home provides comfort, stability, and the calm environment they need to heal, decompress, and grow.

Fostering gives animals the chance to:

  • Recover in a cozy home instead of a busy shelter
  • Gain Weight and receive proper nutrition
  • Build confidence and social skills to increase chances of adoption
  • Heal after extensive surgeries, fracture repairs, foreign body removals, and other medical treatments
  • Take a much-needed break when they are stressed or shut down in the shelter

An Urgent Need for Large-Breed Dog Fosters

Large dogs often struggle the most in a shelter environment, and many require:

  • Space to relax and decompress
  • Gentle structure and confidence-building
  • Experienced foster caregivers, particularly those comfortable with medical or mobility needs
  • Homes able to support post-surgical recovery and monitored rest

If you have experience with large dogs or medical cases, your support is incredibly valuable. Even a short-term stay can make a tremendous impact.
