Opportunity Details

The Live Green Toronto Volunteers program offers a unique opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to connect with others with similar interests, and to learn and help spread the word about environmental issues that our city faces. Volunteers in this program have the opportunity to attend events across Toronto, sharing information about the City of Toronto’s environment and climate programs, initiatives and resources.

Events take place across many of Toronto’s neighbourhoods from March to November, on weekdays and weekends.

Hours are flexible, and you can choose which events you want to attend.

The minimum annual requirements to remain a volunteer in the program

  • 1 event shift (typically 3-4 hours long)
  • Mandatory training sessions (1-2 sessions each month; typically 1-2 hours each)

The first step is to attend one of our New Volunteer Information Sessions, which will take place in November 2025.

To be notified about the next Information Session, please sign up here. You will not receive a response right away – we’ll notify you by email closer to the date of the next session.

As a volunteer, you’ll have an opportunity to spread the live green message to the public at more than 100 events each year — everything from the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair and the National Home Show, to street festivals and smaller community-based events across the city.

You will receive ongoing training on environmental issues and City programs related to climate change, waste and recycling, energy and water efficiency, urban biodiversity, green buildings/development, sustainable transportation, urban agriculture, and more.
