The City of Toronto purchased the building at 877 Yonge Street to create new homes for approximately 244 people and support their health and well-being.
The homes are a mix of studio and one-bedroom apartments, each with a bathroom and a kitchen. The building includes amenities such as shared laundry, a dining area, a communal area, and programming space.
The homes are dedicated to women, Indigenous residents, seniors, people with disabilities and people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Tenants have access to a variety of support services.
Two virtual community information session were held with Councillor Mike Layton and City staff to provide additional information about the project and to answer your questions.
This building is managed by St. Clare’s Multifaith Housing Society, a qualified and experienced non-profit housing provider which brings professional building management experience and expertise providing customized supports tailored to meet the unique needs of each resident. Experienced support workers are available 24/7 to connect residents to a range of supports, including health care professionals and other community-based programs.
Housing with supports is a combination of deeply affordable housing and on-site supports that enable people to live as independently as possible. Supportive housing can help people stabilize their lives, help them stay housed and positively contribute to communities.

The building at 877 Yonge St. was formerly a seniors’ residence that ceased general operations in 2019 and the building was sold to a third party. All residents were supported to move into new homes, with the exception of one resident who remained in the building. The other units have remained vacant since 2019.
The City of Toronto purchased the building in April 2021, an important step in ensuring the building did not remain vacant when there is an urgent need for affordable housing in Toronto. The building will provide homes with supports to women, Indigenous residents, seniors, people with disabilities and people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
