Toronto Island is a collection of islands with a network of pedestrian-friendly multi-use trails that wind through the lush greenery and over bridges, taking you from one island to the next. The estimated distances between the Island docks is below. Only emergency and commercial service vehicles are allowed on the island. Public vehicles are not allowed.

Cycling

You can bring your own bike to the island or Bike Share Toronto stations are available, offering a convenient option for getting around. Bike Share bikes are not allowed on ferries. There is a docking station at Jack Layton Ferry Terminal to leave mainland bikes. Pick up a new bike upon arrival at the island and return to an island location before returning to the mainland. Washrooms

The following public washrooms are open year-round:

  • near the Ward’s beach
  • in Centre Island
  • at Hanlan’s Point Ferry Dock

Water is available at the public washrooms but water filling stations outside these washrooms are not available in winter months.

Canoe & Kayak Tie Ups

There are several places throughout the islands where you can tie up canoes or kayaks temporarily, use at your own risk.

Winter Visits

October to April is the winter season for Toronto Island. It can be colder on the island than in the rest of Toronto. Dress in layers to stay warm and add an insulated layer to protect you against the cold. Make sure to bring a hat, scarf and gloves along with boots.

Ward’s Island Waiting Shed

The Ward’s Island waiting shed is open and is heated in the winter. Capacity is limited and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
