Death in a shelter Under the Province of Ontario’s Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the City of Toronto is only able to release personal information regarding the death of an individual in a City-run or -funded shelter with the individual’s next of kin. In limited circumstances, the City may also be able to share information with close relatives or friends.

Funeral expensesCoverage for basic funeral expenses may be provided on behalf of deceased Toronto residents who do not have enough money in their estate to cover the costs.
